Testimonials

"What a week! We are all absolutely shattered but exhilarated! I never knew my body had such adrenalin. Kayaking, rock climbing, lunching with the seals - what better way to spend your holiday. Fabulous instruction from Mike, great group, lovely food & accommodation. Thanks for a great holiday - will definitely be back & will recommend this to all my chums." Sarah Clark

"I had some kayaking experience but my partner had very little. We spent the first two days learning kayaking skills and learning the characteristics of the kayaks. Mike's instruction was great and it was good fun learning good solid paddle strokes which have helped me in my kayaking since. We opted for the fully inclusive option so had very nice lunches in the sun on the first two days. On the third day we were talked through expedition planning skills and given an introduction to tides, weather, equipment etc. Having packed all the required food, tents and kit into the kayaks we were off into the Sound. What followed were two nights and two full days on the water, camping out at some great spots. We were lucky enough to spot porpoises, whales and a couple of otters, the best sighting being an otter just before we finished the trip as we headed back to applecross. We were treated to great food, great landscapes and great company. I can fully recommend this company to anyone who wants to experience wilderness and a bit of adventure in a fantastic setting. I would also recommend this a a great holiday whether you are a solo traveller, couple or family with children. I will definitely be going on a trip in the future, hopefully on one of the longer trips to Canada" Chris Armstrong July 2013

"Five days of beautiful kayaking and wild camping in stunning surroundings. Mike took us from beginners to paddling off for a three day excursion with a lot of patience and took a great deal of care teaching us the basics very thoroughly. He has exceptional knowledge about the local flora and fauna and even teaches broader concerns like expedition planning. The equipment and preparation were excellent and we had complete faith in Mike's leadership of the group at all times. Delicious local food and comfortable accommodation. The perfect break from busy city life!" Gabriel Lambert Aug 2017

Trip Description

Inner Sound Sea Kayaking in Scotland – The Ultimate Beginner & Improver Adventure

Discover Scotland’s finest introduction to sea kayaking, designed for beginners and improvers alike.

Day One – Getting Started Begin your journey on Lochcarron with a fun, confidence-building session. We’ll cover the essentials, from basic paddle strokes to a short coastal trip, easing you into the water at a relaxed pace.

Day Two – Skills & Safety Take your paddling further with intermediate training. Learn vital techniques, including how to re-enter your kayak and help each other on the water—skills that build confidence and prepare you for expedition paddling and journeys.

Days Three to Five – Wilderness Expedition. The adventure truly begins as we plan a multi-day camping expedition together. Guided by the weather, we’ll chart our route around the Crowlin or Kishorn Islands and along the wild Applecross peninsula. Nights are spent at iconic wild camps such as Uags Point, the coral beach, or even one of the islands themselves, before returning to Lochcarron or Loch Kishorn.

Wildlife Encounters Scotland’s coastal fringes are alive with wildlife. Expect regular sightings of porpoises, seabirds, and—if we're very fortunate—puffins, whales, and seasonal dolphins may join the spectacle.

Flexible Options Prefer not to camp on the non expedition training days? Choose the trip-only option and stay at local campsites or nearby accommodation in Lochcarron, Applecross, or Shieldaig—all within easy reach of our kayak base.

Why This Trip? This is Scotland’s premier beginner/improver sea kayaking expedition. You’ll have time to train properly before setting out, and three days of sheltered paddling to immerse yourself in the wild beauty of the Highlands.

A Varied Coastal Experience From shell and maerl coral beaches to smooth Torridonian sandstone landings, every stop offers something unique.

Unforgettable Evenings Enjoy wilderness camping under canvas, fresh homemade food (or self-cater if you prefer), and the dramatic Cuillin Ridge as your backdrop. It’s no wonder this is our most popular experience in Scotland.
